President Donald Trump on Friday endorsed Iowa GOP Rep. Ashley Hinson to become the state’s next senator, after incumbent Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst announced she was not seeking 2026 reelection.

Hinson launched her campaign on Tuesday, hours after Ernst revealed she would not seek reelection in order to focus on her family.

Trump touted his record in Iowa, which he won in all three of his presidential campaigns, and promised Hinson would be a good choice to replace Ernst.

“I know Ashley well, and she is a WINNER,” he wrote on Truth Social. “A Loving Wife and Proud Mother of two sons, Ashley is a wonderful person, has ALWAYS delivered for Iowa, and will continue doing so in the United States Senate.”

Trump also said the congresswoman is already working hard to help pass his America’s First agenda, including working to create new jobs in Iowa and cut taxes for Iowans.

“Ashley Hinson will be an outstanding Senator, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement – SHE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN,” he added.

Democrats have also jumped into the Senate primary race, including Iowa state Rep. Josh Turek, state Sen. Zach Wahls, Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nathan Sage and Des Moines School Board chairperson Jackie Norris.
