A federal judge in Illinois on Monday afternoon declined to issue a temporary restraining order that would block the deployment of Texas National Guard troops to the state.
The rejection occurred after Texas announced it was sending 2,000 National Guard troops to Chicago after Gov. JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson strongly opposed sending federal resources to the city to crack down on crime and illegal immigration.
The city of Chicago and the state of Illinois have sued the Trump administration to stop the deployment.
The federal judge rejected signing a temporary restraining order, setting another hearing on the matter for Thursday, but said: “If I were the federal government, I’d take a pause on this,” per CBS News.
The decision also comes after a judge in Oregon stayed President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard on 10th Amendment grounds.
