Boston Red Sox fans are clamoring for Roman Anthony.
The No. 1 prospect in all of baseball is hanging out at Triple-A, too good for the level, not getting enough pitches to hit because pitchers don’t want to throw him anything over the plate.
The outfielder appears to be one of those can’t-miss prospects that will hit the ground running as a star from his very first moments in Major League Baseball.
But the Red Sox, without a super clear outfield opening, have delayed bringing Anthony up.
They started top second base prospect Kristian Campbell in the majors for Opening Day. They just brought Marcelo Mayer up after Alex Bregman got hurt. But no Anthony yet.
Mayer, who came up in the minors with Anthony, thinks it’s about time.
“I think he’s ready,” Mayer told Chris Cotillo of MassLive. “Obviously, playing with him every single day for the last two years, I get to see the type of player he is and the type of person he is. I think his transition is going to be pretty smooth to the big leagues whenever that may be. I know he’s gonna be ready.”

Stats don’t tell the whole story for any prospect, of course, but Anthony has been stellar at Worcester. He’s hitting .306 with eight home runs and a .940 OPS.
Anthony just turned 21 years old. The Red Sox took him 79th overall in 2022 out of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
His time is now. Red Sox fans know it. Mayer knows it. And now baseball awaits his major league arrival.
