Red Sox predicted to cut ties with 3-time All-Star in trade to Yankees

The New York Yankees could pry away a superstar slugger from the Boston Red Sox before the trade deadline, according to a new report.

Amid Boston’s roster drama and disappointing season so far, Pinstripes Nation’s Sara Molnick sees an opportunity for the reigning American League champion Yankees to swoop in and steal away a three-time All-Star from their bitter rival.

The Red Sox entered Sunday with a 28-32 record, far below expectations. Meanwhile, the Yankees are leading the AL East behind another MVP season from Aaron Judge and look primed to return to the World Series.

To come away with a title this time, Molnick believes the Yanks should make the boldest of moves in a wild trade with the Red Sox.

“The New York Yankees may have found a blockbuster answer to a third base crisis that could define their 2025 season,” Molnick wrote.

“A trade for Boston Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers.”

“The All-Star third baseman is embroiled in a deepening rift with Boston’s front office,” Molnick continued.

“Despite no formal trade request, tension between Devers and Boston’s brass has become impossible to ignore. Behind closed doors, Boston’s frustration reportedly continues mounting. Publicly, Devers remains in the DH role, but tension has reached a boiling point. Despite multiple meetings between front office personnel and Devers’ representatives, no formal trade request has materialized—yet the situation appears increasingly untenable.”

Molnick envisioned the Yankees sending Boston a package featuring Paul Goldschmidt, as well as prized young prospects Spencer Jones and Chase Hampton.

With all due respect, this trade doesn’t make a ton of sense and probably has a 0.0 percent chance of happening.

Boston hasn’t given any indication that they are interested in trading Devers. Actually, what the Red Sox have done recently is accept his refusal to play first base, a sign that they are more interested in appeasing Devers than alienating him further.

That isn’t the behavior of a club that is interested in or even considering trading Devers; it’s the behavior of a club planning on having Devers in the fold for many years to come.
