House Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday slammed ally Elon Musk for lambasting President Donald Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” which passed the lower chamber last month.
Musk heavily criticized the conservative package in a series of posts on X earlier Tuesday, claiming it was a “disgusting abomination,” and “shamed” lawmakers who voted in favor of the legislation.
The legislation seeks to reduce spending by $1.5 trillion over 10 years rather than $2 trillion in one year, which Republicans have claimed would be necessary to balance the budget.
Johnson told reporters that the Tesla CEO’s rhetoric was not what he had heard from the man on Monday, who he spoke to for 20 minutes about the good parts of the spending bill, and expressed disappointment in Musk’s latest sentiment.
