Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Saturday that she rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s offer to send U.S. troops into Mexico to combat drug trafficking.

“He said, ‘How can we help you fight drug trafficking? I propose that the United States military come in and help you.’ And you know what I said to him? ‘No, President Trump,’” she said.

“Sovereignty is not for sale. Sovereignty is loved and defended,” she also said. “We can work together, but you in your territory and us in ours.”

Border encounters have dropped to record lows under Trump. U.S. military has increased along the border since Trump took office.
