Sovereignty beats Journalism to win Belmont Stakes, two-thirds of Triple Crown

Sovereignty and jockey Junior Alvarado beat Journalism on Saturday evening to win the 157th Belmont Stakes and two-thirds of horse racing’s Triple Crown.

Journalism, who won the Preakness Stakes when Sovereignty dropped out, finished second while Baeza took third in an exact finish of the Kentucky Derby a month ago.

Sovereignty, a 5-2 favorite, won by three lengths in 2 minutes, 0.69 seconds.
