The Pentagon is expected to deploy 700 Marines to Los Angeles temporarily, in order to help handle unruly protests that have broken out in the Southern California city over several federal immigration-enforcement sweeps, Reuters reported Monday.

An unnamed United States official told the outlet that the Marines will be deployed until more National Guard troops arrive and will be operating in a supportive role. The Insurrection Act is not expected to be invoked.

President Donald Trump activated the National Guard to protect federal properties during the protests over the weekend. It is not clear when the additional National Guard troops will arrive.
