The Senate has confirmed former Missouri GOP Rep. Billy Long as IRS commissioner.
The vote Thursday in the 100-member, GOP-controlled chamber was 53-44, according to The Hill news outlet.
The last IRS commissioner confirmed by the Senate was Danny Werfel, whom former President Biden nominated. While IRS commissioners typically serve five-year terms, Werfel resigned when President Trump took office in January, after he had said in December that he would replace Werfel with Long.
Werfel’s deputy, Doug O’Donnell, served as acting IRS commissioner following his boss’ resignation.
Long posted on X on Thursday evening following his confirmation, “@realDonaldTrump just called to congratulate me.”
