Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, said Friday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu needs President Donald Trump’s full support amid recent Iran strikes.
“One is that he’s unimpeded in defending Israel and defending Israel’s right to exist,” Miller-Meeks said on the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. “As we know, Iran and its proxies want to eradicate Israel and the people of Israel, and so they will continue in their quest to build a nuclear armed weapon attached to ballistic missiles.”
Israel launched a “pre-emptive” strike on Iran from Thursday evening into Friday morning, aiming to dismantle the country’s nuclear program.
Following the strikes, Iran announced it would be backing out of nuclear talks with the U.S. that were scheduled for Sunday.
“It’s a direct threat to Israel and to peace in the Middle East,” Miller-Meeks said. “We know that there are countries wanting to normalize relations with Israel, especially economic relations.”
Following the airstrikes, Trump urged Iran to “make a deal” with the U.S. on its nuclear program “before there is nothing left.”
“They’re looking for the United States to continue helping with intelligence and to continue to help support the Iron Dome,” she later said.
