President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday discussed the conflict between Iran and Israel over the phone Saturday. According to Trump, they both agree the war should end.
āHe feels, as do I, this war in Israel-Iran should end, to which I explained, his war should also end,ā Trump wrote.Ā
TrumpĀ said on his Truth Social platform that the call lasted approximately an hour. He said, while they discussed Russia and Ukraine, much of the discussion concerned the war in Israel and Iran.Ā
Putin foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov said Putin briefed Trump,Ā according to the Associated Press, on Putinās discussions with leaders of Israel and Iran. Ushakov told reporters that Putin condemned the military operation against Iran and expressed concerns about the conflict escalating. The situation could, Ushakov said, have āunpredictable consequences for the entire situation in the Middle East.ā
Putin also discussed Russiaās willingness to provide mediation efforts and pointed out the steps Russia had taken to find āmutually acceptable agreementsā during U.S.-Iran negotiations concerning Iranās nuclear program.Ā
Trump said in his Truth Social post that Putin had called to wish him a happy birthday.Ā
