Cheapest single game prices for Shohei Ohtani’s return to pitching

It has been over 663 days since Shohei Ohtani stepped on the mound and struck someone out. The two-way phenom finally returns to pitching 21 months after he had elbow surgery. 

After the Los Angeles Dodgers’ win against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, it was announced Ohtani will be used as the opener against the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium on June 16.

Signing with the Los Angeles Angels for the 2018 season, Ohtani would stay in Los Angeles but switch teams when he signed a ten-year deal with the Dodgers. In his first season in the National League, Ohtani won a third MVP, a World Series ring, and made history by producing the first 50-50 season.

This year, Ohtani continues where he left off as one of the league leaders in home runs. While he has produced behind the plate, Ohtani has slowly been progressing on the mound, facing hitters before games. It was a slow transition back after undergoing surgery on his UCL. 

It is unknown his limit or how often he will pitch, but it’s a good sign for Ohtani and the Dodgers that the phenom is returning to the mound for the first time since August 23, 2023.  

“Shohei is getting antsy, which is a good thing for us,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said via NBC News. “I don’t know if it’s going to be one or two innings, but my guess is probably an inning to start. But it’s a good thing. The live, simulated, or whatever, sort of ran its course. He’s ready to make his debut on the mound.”
