On Tuesday, June 17, the death of celebrity chef Anne Burrell, best known for appearing on Food Network shows “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef” and “Worst Cooks in America,” was announced at the age of just 55.

In a statement to People magazine, Burrell’s family confirmed the tragic news: “Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”

Anne Burrell dies at 55: what was the cause of death?

Burrell’s cause of death has yet to be revealed, with an autopsy still to be carried out.

Also speaking to People, NYPD revealed that a 55-year-old woman had been found “unconscious and unresponsive,” and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene, at the chef’s address in Brooklyn.

Final project emphasizes unexpected nature of Burrell’s death

Burrell’s death came just one day after details of her last ever project were revealed, further emphasizing the shock nature of her passing.

On Monday, June 16, CareRite Centers, Florida-based centres dedicated to rehabilitation and nursing, announced the expansion of its Signature Culinary Excellence program in partnership with Burrell.

Burrell had previously visited six centers across the state at the start of June and had the mission of “elevating the standard of dining in healthcare with meals that are ‘good for the soul’.”

Did Anne Burrell have any children?

Burrell, who was engaged to fellow chef Koren Grieveson for a period in the 2010s, subsequently married Stuart Claxton, who works in ad sales for Univision. Burrell became stepmother to Claxton’s son, Javier. She is also survived by her mother, Marlene, and siblings, Jane and Ben.
