The 2025 MLB Draft is a little under a month away and every team is looking at draft boards to see who could be their next up and coming star of their respective franchises.
For the Tigers, their next star could be Detroitās third baseman of the future. In ESPNās latest MLB Mock Draft, writer Kiley McDaniel predicts the Tigers will draft Tennessee third baseman Andrew Fischer with the No. 24 overall pick.
āFischer is rising due to his strong performance in the SEC this year, and while he’s likely still behind Irish, he might be sneaking up on LaViolette with a chance to go in the top 20 picks. I think Detroit is looking to pair a college player with a high school player between this pick and its next (34) and will be looking mostly at left-handed hitters,ā McDaniel said.
Fischer would fill a third base spot that could soon be open in Detroit. With starting third baseman Matt Vierling still dealing with an injury he has had since spring training, the Tigers have been rolling with Zach McKinstry in the hot corner this season.
While McKinstry has batted .273 with three home runs, he has just one year left on his contract as he would turn 31 in the beginning of the 2026 season.
Fischerās left-handed hitting performed well in the SEC this season with a batting average .341 along with a team-high 25 home runs. Fischerās power would give Detroit another hitter with some pop as well as the defensive skills to handle third base.
