The Boston Red Sox are in danger of becoming sellers at the trade deadline. If that happens, Jarren Duran could be a prime candidate to be dealt to a new team.

Duran may be the odd man out in the Red Sox outfield. Roman Anthony is not going to be traded, Ceddanne Rafaela is signed to an extension and Wilyer Abreu is younger with more club control than Duran. Duran was tabbed as the deadline’s second-best trade candidate by ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel.

Duran spoke on hearing his name in trade rumors during an appearance on “Underdog MLB Section 10 Podcast.”

“Honestly, the way I think about it is I have absolutely no say and no control. So why would I even give it two thoughts?” Duran said. “That’s the way I think about it.”

“If it happens, I’ll probably break down crying having to say goodbye to (Rob) Refsnyder and Trevor Story and the boys,” Duran continued. “That’ll happen, but at the end of the day, it’s like, I have absolutely no control. The more I feed that into my own brain, the more it’s gonna tear me up. So I just don’t really think about it. And if it happens, it happens. But at the end of the day, I have no control.”

Duran was an All-Star last season. He led baseball in doubles and triples and was named All-Star Game MVP. His numbers have seen a slight decline this year. Perhaps that’s a result of hearing his name in trade rumors.

He is slashing .252/.309/.402 with five home runs this year. He is leading the league in triples again this year and has 15 stolen bases. The Red Sox could get a solid return for Duran as he is not a free agent until after the 2028 season.
