There are few figures in Hollywood that can boast an individual ‘look’ as distinctive as Jason Mamoa.

The 6ft 4in Hawaiian has a rugged, imposing style, typified by the full beard that he has sported since first finding global fame as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. Since then, the beard has remained a part of his character, until now.

As Mamoa prepares to reprise his role as Duncan Idaho for ‘Dune: Part Three’ he has been forced to shave his iconic beard, reportedly for the first time in six years.

“Only for you, Denis,” Momoa said while using an electric razor in a video posted on Instagram. “Goddamit, I hate it.”

Mamoa first confirmed the news of his return in an appearance on TODAY, in which he told Craig Melvin: “I’m making a comeback!

“Well, I’m not sure if I’m going to get in trouble or not, but it’s the same thing like ‘Game of Thrones’, you know what I mean?” he continued. “If you didn’t read the books, it’s not my fault, right? Yeah, there’s going to be … I’m going to be coming back.”

Villeneuve has been less willing to give hints about the upcoming movie. Speaking to reporters last year, he was tight-lipped about rumors of an upcoming third film in the Dune series.

“First, it’s important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych,” Villeneuve said last year, referring to the first two films. “It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book.”

“That’s done and that’s finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy. It’s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it’s to do something that feels different and has its own identity.”
