New court filings in the New York prosecutor’s murder case against Luigi Mangione for allegedly killing a United Healthcare CEO last year include diary entries in which he writes the executive “had it coming.”

Mangione has been charged with murder in connection with the Dec. 4, 2024, fatal shooting of health care executive Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel en route to a business conference.

“This investor conference is a true windfall,” reads one diary excerpt. “It embodies everything wrong with our healthcare system.”

Mangione at the time of the killing was an Ivy League graduate from a prominent Maryland family with no criminal record or history of violence. The 27-year-old reportedly struggled with back problems in recent years.

“I finally feel confident about what I will do,” reads another entry. “The details are coming together. And I don’t feel any doubt about whether it’s right/justified.”

The diary entries also express that the writer is glad “in a way – that I’ve procrastinated because it allowed me to learn more about UHC.”

The writer also states: “The target is insurance.  It checks every box.”

Closed-circuit video shows Mangione arriving in New York on a bus on November 24, checking into a hotel with a fake ID and stalking the CEO before the murder at 6:54 a.m., according to a court document.

A New York State Supreme Court indictment includes charges of first-degree murder and possession of a criminal weapon as well as ones related to terrorism and forgery.

Mangione is facing federal charges and ones in Pennsylvania, where he was apprehended after a four day manhunt.

His next state court appearance will be on June 26 and his next federal court appearance will take place on Dec. 5.

In April, Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that Mangione merited the death penalty if convicted of the murder.

Mangione has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
