In a Truth Social post Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced that he had chosen Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York City mayor, to lead the team coordinating the global event.
“I am proud to announce the appointment of Andrew Giuliani as the Executive Director of the President’s Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he said. “During my First Term, Andrew served as a Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison, playing a key role in creating the system that enabled athletes from around the World to re-enter the United States during the Reopening of America in 2020.”
The World Cup, which typically attracts millions to the regions that host it, is expected to be a boon economically for cities like Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, and Atlanta. There are 16 total host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 2022 World Cup saw a cumulative attendance of 3.4 million spectators and engages about 5 billion people annually.
Trump, in the same announcement, also appointed former president of the United States Soccer Federation Carlos Cordeiro to serve as senior advisor.
