Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Short N’ Sweet’ tour has become part concert, part comedy sketch – and this week, it featured a royal guest. The pop star “arrested” none other than Anne Hathaway during her New York City show, in a moment that went viral within hours.

Carpenter nails “Princess” Hathaway

Spotting the Devil Wears Prada 2 star in the audience, Carpenter leaned into her mic with a grin: “What’s your name? Sorry, never heard of you like that.” When Hathaway smiled back, she added, “You’re Anne! Wow! Has anyone ever told you that you look like a princess?” – a nod to The Princess Diaries. Seconds later came the punchline: Carpenter sent over a pair of toy handcuffs and teased, “Did they arrest you for being the first princess in the world?” Hathaway laughed, playing along as the crowd roared, and you can see it here in the clip.

Who has Sabrina “arrested” before?

This wasn’t Sabrina’s first playful “arrest.” Just days earlier, she cuffed Gigi Hadid at her Pittsburgh show, following earlier captures of Emma Bunton, Millie Bobby Brown, Marcello Hernández, and Margaret Qualley. The running gag has turned into a fan-favourite tour tradition – part of Carpenter’s blend of pop stardom and viral-era humour. Who will be next?
