More than 150 protesters gathered at a government building parking garage after rumors spread that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were preparing to detain illegal immigrants somewhere in lower Manhattan.

Demonstrators reportedly tried to block exits at a parking garage near Centre and Howard Streets, chanting “ICE out of New York.”

The crowd formed a human blockade around the garage and some protesters threw planters and barricades at police lines, The New York Post reported. The protesters obstructed vehicles that appeared to be carrying agents, witnesses said.

Police reportedly asked the crowd to disperse numerous times, and eventually the NYPDn arrested at least 18 people for disorderly conduct and obstructing government operations. No serious injuries were reported.
