At least three people are dead after a reported explosion Friday at a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department facility, Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The county fire department said it responded to calls about a possible explosion at the facility around 7:30 a.m., The Associated Press reported.
The sheriff’s department has not confirmed any deaths. Bondi said U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli’s office gave her the information about the deaths.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) office said he’s been briefed on the incident, which occurred at the sheriff department’s Special Operations Bureau, in East Los Angeles.
A law enforcement official briefed on the matter told the AP on the condition of anonymity that the explosion is being investigated at least preliminarily as a possible training accident.
The explosion happened in a parking lot filled with sheriff patrol cars and box trucks, according to aerial footage from KABC-TV.
