Kendrick Lamar is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential artists of his generation.

The Compton native is celebrated for his exceptional lyrical ability, complex rhyme schemes, and profound wordplay.

His music delves into significant themes such as systemic racism, poverty, police brutality, mental health, and the Black experience in America with unflinching honesty and depth.

The 38-year-old has released a string of highly acclaimed and commercially successful albums, including “good kid, m.A.A.d city,” “To Pimp a Butterfly,” and “DAMN” with the latter making history as the first non-classical or jazz work to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music, highlighting the artistic merit and cultural significance of his work.

2025 BET Awards

The BET Awards 2025 nominees were confirmed earlier and there is little surprise that Lamar leads the way with ten nominations.

Lamar’s nominations include ‘Album of the Year’ for GNX, ‘Video of the Year’ for “Not Like Us,” three ‘Viewer’s Choice Award’ nods for “Not Like Us,” “Luther,” featuring SZA, and “Like That” with Future & Metro Boomin, three ‘Best Collaboration’ nods for “Like That,” “30 for 30,” and “Luther,” featuring SZA, ‘Video Director of the Year’ with Dave Free, and ‘Best Male Hip Hop Artist.’

The winners from the 2025 award ceremony will be announced June 9 in an event at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles live on BET with Kevin Hart set to the ceremony.
