The Toronto Blue Jays are not out of the postseason race, but by the time the trade deadline rolls around, that could change. Bo Bichette could be the hottest name on the market if the Blue Jays become sellers.

Bichette is a two-time All-Star and has led the American League in hits twice in his career. However, the Blue Jays may not be able to pay him after giving Vladimir Guerrero Jr. a $500 million deal. If they are out of contention, they would be wise to flip him for some prospects. The Detroit Free Press’ Christian Romo suggested the Detroit Tigers could swing a trade for Bichette.

“Bichette is in the final year of a three-year, $33.6 million deal with the Blue Jays, making him a free agent at the end of the 2025 season. The Tigers could add Bichette (or any other shortstop) to their roster without having to get rid of (Trey) Sweeney, as the 25-year-old has three minor league options left.”

Sweeney is still young, so the Tigers are not going to just give up on him. However, a rental like Bichette could help them win the American League this year. The Tigers are currently the owners of the best record in all of baseball and need to capitalize on their championship window.

The Tigers already have Javier Báez, but his positional flexibility has made him useful in other spots amid injuries. They could keep using him as a utility player in the lineup and make Bichette the everyday shortstop.

Bichette is hitting .275 and has hit seven home runs in May, after not hitting a single one in March and April. He had three consecutive 20-plus homer seasons before last year. He has seemingly found his home run swing again and could help get the Tigers to the World Series. In return, the Blue Jays could add a prospect or two to help them build around Guerrero.
