A Canadian judge on Friday ordered the suspect in the Filipino heritage festival attack to undergo a mental health assessment that will determine if he is able to stand trial.

Kai-Ji Adam Lo, 30, is accused of driving his sport utility vehicle through a large crowd at the festival, killing 11 people and injuring more than 24.

He appeared in court through a video link, wearing an orange short-sleeved jumpsuit.

He is due back in court on May 30.
