The National League Central leading Chicago Cubs are making a bullpen move.
The Cubs have finalized a one-year, major-league contract with left-handed reliever Génesis Cabrera, per ESPN.
Cabrera was designated for assignment last week by the New York Mets and is expected to be available Friday afternoon against the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field.
Right-handed reliever Brooks Kriske has been DFA’d by the Cubs to make room for Cabrera on the 40-man roster.
Cabrera, 28, pitched in six games for the Mets this season, posting a 3.52 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 7.2 innings.
Cabrera began his career with the St. Louis Cardinals and pitched with the team from 2019 to 2023. He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2023 and remained with the team until he joined the Mets this year.

In his career, Cabrera is 17-14 with five saves and 70 holds in 279 games. He has a career 3.88 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.
The lanky left-hander features a sinker that tops out just above 96 miles per hour, curveball, cutter, four-seam fastball and splitter.
Cabrera should fit in nicely with the Cubs; he gives Chicago another lefty to pair with Caleb Thielbar, who is more of a finesse pitcher.
The Cubs will take a three-game NL Central lead into a home series versus the Reds beginning Friday.
