Denzel Washington has learned his lesson.
The actor recently revealed, by accident, the existence of Black Panther 3, which Marvel Studios later quietly confirmed. Now, he’s trying to stay away from making statements that might give away too much. Naturally, he’s often asked about his role in his debut in the MCU, but he won’t say a word until it’s officially announced.
“That stays between Ryan (Coogler, the director) and me,” said the veteran actor.
During an interview, Washington described Cooper as a “genius” and said that he would read the scripts the actor reads.
“Ryan is a genius. I called him to apologize about the movie, and his beautiful wife happened to be sitting right there. He’s still Ryan: humble and full of ideas. Whatever he writes, I’ll read it.“
This explanation is how Washington ended up saying more than he should have. “I’m only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many movies I have left to make—probably not many. I want to do things I’ve never done before. Ryan Coogler has written a part for me in the next Black Panther,” he said a few months ago.
Washington made those comments before the release of the brilliant The Sinners, so it’s likely that Washington holds Coogler in even higher regard now.

The Sinners: Ryan Coogler’s Definitive Breakthrough
Coogler already had an impressive résumé for someone his age (39), having directed both Black Panther films as well as the Creed saga. However, with The Sinners, he truly broke the mold, with the film even being considered by some as the greatest vampire movie of all time.

“In a way, The Sinners is an allegory of our times, though its themes resonate with contemporary global issues,” we wrote in our review of the film. “Some parts may feel a bit long, but the whole shines like the sun the bloodsuckers never want to see.”
