The Los Angeles Dodgers, like the rest of the world, found out just before their game that the San Francisco Giants were acquiring Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox.

The Dodgers have a two-game lead on the Giants, and just before their Sunday matchup, they found out that Devers was headed to San Francisco. The Dodgers were involved in a trade for a Red Sox superstar in 2020, when they acquired Mookie Betts. Betts spoke on his former teammate being traded in a blockbuster move.

“I genuinely don’t care,” Betts said, according to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya.

Devers is under club control through 2033 and will now be a key player as the Giants look to win the National League West. Devers is slashing .272/.399/.504 with 15 home runs. There had been tension between him and the organization since spring training, when he was moved off of third base.

Betts helped bring a championship to Boston in 2018 and was the American League MVP that season as well. He is a two-time World Series champion with the Dodgers now. The path to a third World Series in Los Angeles for Betts just got tougher, however. The Giants are outplaying expectations, and Buster Posey is putting together a championship contender.

“I mean, they care, they want to win,” Betts said to The Athletic. “Those guys over there are doing a great job of putting a team together and obviously, they want to win.”

Once part of the Red Sox core, Betts, Devers and Xander Bogaerts will all play in the NL West now. Meanwhile, the Red Sox will face some tough decisions near the trade deadline if they cannot stay in the wild card race between now and then.
