The NFL rewarded the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles with one of the oddest regular-season schedules in recent memory.

For starters, Philly is the first defending champ in league history to play zero back-to-back home games the following season. The Eagles will play two Thursday games and will also be featured on a Friday, Saturday and multiple Monday nights. Their divisional slate is also wonky, as they play both the Giants and Commanders twice in three-week spans; their first game against Washington won’t even come until Week 16.

Oh, and a Super Bowl rematch with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2? There’s nothing like scheduling one of the juiciest matchups on the NFL’s entire 272-game slate during what will essentially be an extension of the preseason on Sept. 14.

Only nine teams in NFL history have won back-to-back Super Bowls, and the Eagles will face an uphill battle to become the 10th. They lost a steady stream of veteran talent in the offseason, especially on Vic Fangio’s defense, and will be breaking in yet another new offensive playcaller in Kevin Patullo.

NFL experts, however, aren’t fretting Philly’s chances in 2025 despite some obvious hurdles. Here’s what they’re saying following the team’s official schedule release:

Philadelphia Eagles 2025 win-loss predictions

Iyer: “The Eagles definitely got “rewarded” with the degree of difficulty rising in their marquee matchups. They will need to cope with more personnel and coaching upheaval, but their core of Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and other veterans will help them maintain their position as NFC East champions and a contender for the conference’s top seed again.”

Camenker: “Philadelphia still has the talent needed to be one of the best teams in the NFC. That said, given the Eagles’ difficult schedule, the defensive changes they have made this offseason and the fact they are coming off a Super Bowl win, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Eagles get off to a slower start and win fewer games than they did last regular season as a result.”

Moton: “Even with the loss of Sweat, Williams and Becton, the Eagles are still equipped to win games at the line of scrimmage, which will help them through a tough schedule that includes road games in Kansas City, Minnesota, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, Buffalo and Los Angeles (Chargers). The Eagles will stumble in a few of those contests, but they’ll take care of business at home as they did last year, going 8-1 at Lincoln Financial Field. Under Patullo, Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith will pick up where they left off in the previous campaign. All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun, Nolan Smith, Jalen Carter, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean will lead another stingy defense with Vic Fangio calling the plays.”

Vacchiano: “One thing is certain about the defending Super Bowl champions: They’re going to have to earn everything they get this season. They have an incredibly hard schedule that has them facing seven playoff teams on the road. They face all four teams they beat during their Super Bowl run last season — at Green Bay, vs. the L.A. Rams, at Kansas City, plus their usual home-and-home with the Commanders, which comes in the final three weeks of this season. Plus they play at Buffalo in Week 17. It’s all brutal. The Eagles’ record may not be as gaudy as it was last year, but they sure will be battle-tested for the playoffs.”

Manzano: “The Eagles have a brutal first five weeks, including the Super Bowl rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. But the defending champs proved last season that they’re capable of brushing off slow starts—winning 10 consecutive games after a 2–2 start. There won’t be many favorable stretches, especially residing in the rugged NFC East, but the Eagles have the advantage of leaning on a stout offensive line and Saquon Barkley.”
