Ed Sheeran is one of the best-selling artists of all time with the English singer/songwriter having sold over 150 million records worldwide. He also has numerous best-selling digital singles on streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify.
The 34-year-old is currently on the European leg of his Mathematics tour which kicked off with two sold-out shows at Madridâs Metropolitano Stadium (home to LaLiga soccer side Atletico Madrid) last weekend where Sheeran played to a total of 140,000 fans over the two nights.
During his time in the Spanish capital, the âShape of Youâ singer was a guest on the popular âLa Revueltaâ television chat show, where he spoke frankly about a series of various topics and confessed to host David Broncano that he didnât possess a cell phone.
Broncano was amazed by the confession and found it staggering that a high profile media personality such as Sheeran could survive without a phone in 2025.
Sheeran confessed that an iPad is his means of communication but itâs size ensures that heâs not under the obligation of having to carry it around and constantly look at it.
âGood for the brainâ
The Ipswich Town minority shareholder Sheeran stated that not being tied constantly to a device can be good for the brain adding that many of his songs wouldnât have occurred to him if heâd had a cell phone handy, emphasizing that boredom is the best thing for creativity with the track âOld Phoneâ being a case in point.
He added that once a week he dedicates time to reply to emails and via his iPad and access social media and he uses FaceTime to make calls but he makes it clear to those around him that heâs not constantly online, available or connected.
