One of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims on Wednesday vented her frustrations with the Department of Justice’s apparently lenient treatment of Ghislaine Maxwell, the late financier’s madam and procurer of women.
Maxwell, who was convicted of sex trafficking, has sought a pardon from President Donald Trump, who has indicated he isn’t considering such a move. She was, however, recently moved from a federal prison in Florida to a lower security prison in Texas. Epstein survivor Teresa Helm, on Wednesday expressed incredulity that she would receive such treatment.
“Why on earth has she been moved from Florida to — it basically is prison spa,” she said during a press conference on Capitol Hill with other survivors.Â
Maxwell recently cooperated with the Justice Department and sat for an interview, the audio of which was made public. Helm specifically suggested that Epstein’s late girlfriend could not be relied upon to provide truthful statements.
“Nothing can be believed from what she says, because she’s been charged with perjury,” Helm also said. “I sat there and listened to this woman’s voice lie and there was no pushback from Todd Blanche.”
During the campaign, President Donald Trump and many of his political allies promised to release the “client list” of Epstein’s associates, though they have yet to do so. The DOJ’s handling of the case, moreover, has become the subject of intense scrutiny, with many zeroing in on Attorney General Pam Bondi in the wake of a botched PR stunt in which she provided influencers with binders full of largely public information.
Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration with the public and his detractors for continuing to press for transparency on the matter, though the public pressure shows no sign of faltering.
