Ethan Hawke is famous due to his long and diverse career as an actor, director, screenwriter, and author, spanning over several decades.
He is known for blending commercial films (like The Purge) with independent and artistic projects, and for his work in theatre, including a Tony Award nomination.
Hawke recently joined Rich Eisen to discuss his new ‘The Lowdown’ show on FX and the 54-year-old also shared some stories about making ‘Dead Poets Society,’ ‘Training Day,’ ‘Reality Bites’ and getting mistaken for Kevin Bacon and Sugar Ray lead singer Mark McGrath in a round of ‘Celebrity True or False.’
Eisen also asked the actor about his role in the song ‘Stay’ by Lisa Loeb being a global hit after it was included in the end credits of the film ‘Reality Bites’.

Hawke confessed: “That is totally true. And I’m a little proud of this because and I was told that Lisa was the first unsigned artist to ever go to number one in the history of rock and roll, because she didn’t even have a label at the time.

Lisa was part of my theater company. And I went to see her play after I finished ‘Reality Bites’, and she played this song. And I was like, this song is perfect for this movie I just finished, you have to record this song. Give it to me so she went home and recorded it on a four track device, and she sent it to me so I got it to Ben (Stiller, the film producer) and he used it for the closing credits which was perfect”.

Loeb’s major label debut album, Tails (1995), and its follow-up, Firecracker (1997), were both certified Gold and included additional top-20 singles like “Do You Sleep?” and “I Do.”
The Maryland native is a Grammy Award-winning artist, winning Best Children’s Album for Feel What U Feel in 2018.
