Former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore was taken into custody Wednesday in connection with an alleged assault after he was fired from his position at the school.

University Athletic Director Warde Manuel said Moore was fired with cause after a university investigation found him “engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member,” according to local TV state FOX 2.

Moore was booked in the Washtenaw County Jail hours later in connection with an alleged assault in Pittsfield Township.

Pittsfield Township Police Department said Moore was detained on Wednesday afternoon after a report of an assault at a home.

They do not believe the alleged assault was random, but are unable to provide more details due to the sensitive nature of the case.

As of Thursday, Moore remains in jail as the investigation continues, but no charges have been filed.
