A former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official used the term “pregnant people” in his resignation letter that he posted online on Thursday.

“I am writing to formally resign from my position as Director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), effective August 28, 2025, close of business,” Dr. Demetre Daskalakis posted on the social media platform, X.

During his long social media post, he accused President Donald Trump’s administration of trying to erase the transgender community.

He said during his time at the CDC, he was a trusted voice for the LGBTQ community and the administration has been “reckless” in how it has been running the agency.

“The recent change in the adult and children’s immunization schedule threaten the lives of the youngest Americans and pregnant people,” Daskalakis’ lengthy post reads. “The data analyses that supported this decision have never been shared with CDC despite my respectful requests to HHS and other leadership.”

He concluded his social media post using his pronouns.
