The New York Jets announced Sunday that legendary center Nick Mangold has died at 41 years of age from complications related to kidney disease.

Mangold, a two-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection, anchored the Jets’ offensive line for more than a decade, becoming one of the most respected linemen in the NFL. Drafted by New York in the first round in 2006, he played 11 seasons—all with the Jets—before retiring in 2018.

The team described Mangold as the “heartbeat of our offensive line for a decade and a beloved teammate whose leadership and toughness defined an era of Jets football.”
