Macaulay Culkin was just 10-years-old when he starred as Kevin McCallister in the festive feelgood movie Home Alone, released in November 1990 and now a Christmas classic.
Home alone and fending off burglars
For those who haven’t seen the movie, the McCallister family are in hurry to get to the airport to catch a plane to Paris, where they will spend the Christmas holiday. But in the rush, Kevin is left behind. With the whole house to himself, Kevin’s new-found freedom is put to the test when a couple of hapless burglars, mistakenly thinking the house is empty, stage a break-in.

Home Alone was a holiday smash, grossing $17 million at the box office during its first weekend. And the movie’s cute little star Culkin instantly became a household name.
And of course, there had to be a sequel: Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, with Culkin, two years older, back in the lead role. This time the McCallisters are spending Christmas a little closer to home – just a couple of thousand miles away in Miami. But having learned nothing from their Paris trip, they manage to get separated from Kevin once again.
Culkin reportedly earned $110,000 for his appearance in the first Home Alone movie but for the sequel, his agent secured a much better fee. For his appearance in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Macaulay pocketed $4.5 million plus 5 percent of the film’s gross.
