The San Francisco Giants still need to figure out where Rafael Devers is playing in the field.
The plan is for that to be a collective decision.
That’s what president of baseball operations Buster Posey told reporters late Sunday night.
for all of you asking: Posey, Zack Minasian, Bob Melvin will discuss how/where they’ll use Devers once they’ve had a chance to talk to him in person. That’s a TBA decision, Posey said.

Much of the reason Devers was available to be traded from the Red Sox in the first place is the positional controversy that hovered over most of this season.
Boston moved him off third base to DH in the offseason when Alex Bregman was signed, and Devers didn’t like that.
Then, when injuries came at both first and third base, Devers seemingly refused to put a glove back on.

He’s not a great defensive player, but even if the long-term decision is to keep him at DH, the Giants and Devers need to be on the same page.
San Francisco surely wouldn’t have made the trade if it felt like they’d have a hard time finding a spot for Devers.
It’ll just be important to let Devers voice his thoughts and go from there, and that’s exactly what the Giants are doing.
