The San Francisco Giants are currently 31-22 and sit one game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the tough National League West.

The Giants have had good contributions from their pitching staff, but the offense hasn’t done nearly as well.

Their struggles haven’t taken them out of the postseason hunt two months into the season, but their big free agent splash of the offseason has gotten off to a bad start.

San Francisco signed shortstop Willy Adames to a seven-year, $182 million contract and may be having early regrets. Bleacher Report ranks this deal as the worst “contract bust” in 2025 two months into the season.

Adames, 29, is slashing just .209/.289/.340 with five home runs and 25 RBI. If the season ended today, his .629 OPS would be the worst of his career by almost 100 points.

Last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, Adames hit 32 home runs and drove in 112 runs in 153 games. He slashed .251/.331/.462, good for a .794 OPS and a 3.1 WAR.

Adames hasn’t exactly been flashing the leather defensively either. He ranks in the 10th percentile for outs above average and has already committed eight errors in 52 games this season.

If the Giants want to make the playoffs for the first time since their National League Division Series exit in 2021, they need Adames to figure it out at the plate and to tighten up on defense.
