The San Francisco Giants have already made the biggest trade of this year’s deadline, having acquired Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison.
However, they may not be done just yet. The deadline is still weeks away, and there will be more available to them.
Another bat certainly wouldn’t hurt as they try to gain ground in the National League West.Â
Nick Selbe of Sports Illustrated listed Ryan O’Hearn as a top trade candidate and had the Giants as a potential fit.
“O’Hearn has been among the few bright spots in what’s been a dismal season in Baltimore. After posting a respectable 119 wRC+ from 2023 to ‘24, his 149 mark to start the year ranks as the sixth-highest in the American League,” Selbe wrote.

O’Hearn has put together a strong season with the Orioles. He is hitting .301/.384/.485 with 11 home runs, 30 RBI and an .869 OPS.
He is in the final year of his contract, but given that he is having a career year, he could be a very attractive trade piece for Baltimore.
The Giants could use him as their everyday first baseman for the remainder of the season if they do acquire him from the Orioles. He brings power from the left side of the plate and can play not only first base, but a little outfield as well.
This has been O’Hearn’s best season to date, so the Giants might have to give up a decent haul in order to land him from the Orioles, but it might be worth it after acquiring Devers if they want to make a deep run in the postseason.
We’ll see if the Giants show interest.
