
Michael Madsen, best known for his portrayal of tough, gritty characters in iconic films such as Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and ‘Kill Bill’, has passed away at the age of 67.
On July 3, 2024, the Madsen’s manager announced that he had been found dead in his Malibu home. The cause of death was said to be a cardiac arrest, and so far, no additional details have been made public. He is survived by his wife DeAnna Morgan, whom he married in 1996, as well as his five living children, and his sisters. Madsen’s son Hudson, whom he shared with Morgan, died by suicide in 2022.
The Chicago native was born on September 25, 1957, to Elaine and Calvin Madsen. His father worked as a firefighter for the Chicago Fire Department after serving in the US Navy in World War II. He would follow his mother’s path into the arts, as would his sister, Virginia Madsen, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in ‘Sideways.’
Madsen’s multidecade career in the arts
Throughout his illustrious career, Madsen accumulated over 300 screen credits, earning him various accolades, including the award for Best Actor at the Boston Film Festival in 2007 for his role as Sean Kelleher in ‘Strength and Honour.’
Beyond his film achievements, many may not be aware that he was also an avid photographer and poet, passions he pursued outside of his Hollywood career. In 1999, Madsen won the Firecracker Alternative Book Award for his book of poems titled ‘Burning In Paradise. His diverse talents and memorable performances left a lasting impact on the film industry.
