GOP’s Hawley moves to create tariff rebates for Americans

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., this week introduced legislation to provide Americans and their children with a $600 rebate from President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Thus far, Trump’s tariffs have brought in at least $100B in revenue, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent estimating that figure could rise to $300B per year. Trump himself previously suggested he was open to a rebate.

Hawley’s bill would apply to nearly all American adults and stack with payments for their children. Accordingly, a family of five could receive $3,000, according to The Hill.

“Like President Trump proposed, my legislation would allow hard-working Americans to benefit from the wealth that Trump’s tariffs are returning to this country,” he said in a statement.
