House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Jodey Arrington will reportedly not seek 2026 re-election, saying public office should be a “temporary stint,” not a career.

“I have a firm conviction, much like our founders did, that public service is a lifetime commitment, but public office is and should be a temporary stint in stewardship, not a career,” the Texas Republican told FoxNews.com, who has served for roughly a decade in Congress.

Arrington cited as a top success, having played a key role in crafting President Donald Trump’s big, beautiful bill.

Arrington’s Lubbock-anchored district leans heavily Republican, which means Republicans will likely be able to keep his House seat in next year’s midterm elections for control of Congress.
