House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., on Monday issued a subpoena to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein’s estate as part of an investigation into potential mismanagement by the federal government looking into Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.

“It is our understanding that the Estate of Jeffrey Epstein is in custody and control of documents that may further the Committee’s investigation and legislative goals,” Comer said in a press release. “Further, it is our understanding the Estate is ready and willing to provide these documents to the Committee pursuant to a subpoena.”

Comer requested the delivery of the documents before or by Sept. 8.

Last week, the Justice Department officially delivered the first batch of Epstein files to Congress, which the House Oversight Committee will review.

Epstein died in prison in August 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. He pleaded guilty to similar state-level charges in Florida in 2008.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex-trafficking and other charges in connection with her procurement of minors for Epstein’s indulgence.
