Giorgio Armani, one of the world’s most famous fashion designers, died on Thursday at the age of 91, according to his fashion house.
The company said the fashion icon, who rose to fame in the late 1970s for his men’s wear, died peacefully and was surrounded by his loved ones. A cause of death has not yet been revealed.
“Indefatigable to the end, [Armani] worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects,” the company said in a statement.Â
The news comes after Armani missed the previews of the 2025 Milan fashion week in June because of an undisclosed condition and was expected to host a major event in late September to celebrate 50 years of his signature Giorgio Armani fashion house, the Associated Press reported.
A private funeral will be held for the fashion icon after a public viewing at the Armani theater in Milan this weekend.
“Giorgio Armani is a company with fifty years of history, built with emotion and patience,” the company said. “Giorgio Armani always made independence – of thought and action – his hallmark. The company is, now and always, a reflection of this spirit. His family and employees will carry the Group forward in respect and continuity of these values.”
