Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed that their two countries are “development partners, not rivals” at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, where Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet with Xi as well.

The meeting marked Modi’s first visit to China in seven years.

According to Reuters, Xi said that border disputes should not be the dominant force of the broader bilateral relationship between the two nations.

The news outlet reported that the two countries plan to restart direct flights that have been suspended since 2020 but Modi did not disclose the exact timing.

China is expected to lift export restrictions on certain items such as rare earths, fertilizers, and tunnel-boring machinery.
