The Chicago Cubs may have to make a decision about one of its veteran free agent acquisitions in the coming weeks.
40-year-old infielder/designated hitter Justin Turner hasn’t lived up to expectations this season.
Not that there were big expectations for the veteran, but even in the slightest, Turner hasn’t looked great.
The Cubs may want to keep him around for the locker room presence and leadership, but according to Aldo Soto of FanSided, he could suffer the same fate that veterans Eric Hosmer and Trey Mancini faced a couple of seasons ago.
Turner was brought in to hit lefties and platoon with Michael Busch at first base, but Turner hasn’t hit well as a Cub.
His defense has looked good, but the main reason Chicago brought him in was to hit and to hit for power.

In 37 games, Turner has just two doubles, one home run and 11 RBI while slashing .211/.302/.267.
Turner’s lack of power at this point in his career could be his downfall as the Cubs try to build a National League Central-winning team.
If his production doesn’t improve soon, the Cubs may look to trade Turner. Chicago’s weak bench unit is already in need of an upgrade, and Turner could be the first man out as we approach the middle of June.
