House Speaker Mike Johnson said Monday the chamber could miss his Memorial Day deadline to pass President Trump’s domestic spending bill.

The Louisiana Republican said he pushed back his timeline for chamber committees to “markup,” or complete work on their respective parts of the bill, after meeting Thursday with Trump, according to the news outlet Politico.

He said if the entire bill is not passed by May 31 it will be “shortly thereafter.”

The budget bill includes tax cuts, a defense spending increase, and more border security.
