The Los Angeles Lakers enter the offseason with many needs, mainly at the center position. If the Lakers want to be the team they’re looking to be, it has to come in the form of adding a decent center this summer.

There are some veterans and younger players for the Lakers to pursue, but it remains uncertain what the organization wants.Ā

There have been rumors that they could be interested in Steven Adams, a veteran who played for the Houston Rockets during the 2024-25 campaign.Ā

Adams impressed during the postseason, significantly increasing his value.Ā

He showed that he still has something left in the tank, and that should interest the Lakers and other teams around the league.Ā

However, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, it doesn’t sound like the Lakers will have much of a chance to poach him to Los Angeles this summer.Ā

Iko reported that Adams is the top priority for the Rockets.

ā€œVeterans Steven Adams, Jeff Green and Jae’Sean Tate will be unrestricted free agents as of June 30 — but of the trio, Adams is seen as the clear priority… Adams, who earned $12.6 million last season, would be a natural fit for teams such as San Antonio, New York, Indiana and both Los Angeles organizations. But the Rockets are operating under the assumption Adams wants to return — and will continue to speak with his representation about a possible extension,ā€ Iko wrote.

Adams’ stats are never going to wow anybody, but he’s a very good rebounder and a big body underneath.Ā

Even if he plays a few minutes at night, there’s value in having a veteran with his type of status on the court for Los Angeles.
