Detroit Lions rookie Tyleik Williams enters the NFL with high expectations.
They drafted him No. 28 overall out of Ohio State to be a stalwart on the interior of their defensive line for years to come.
But there’s one thing that is already bothering Williams: his jersey number.
At rookie minicamp, Williams was given the No. 78 jersey. Those are digits more often worn by offensive linemen, not defensive line forces.
Williams wore No. 91 at Ohio State.
Currently, Lions teammate Levi Onwuzurike wears 91.
“Right now, you know, I tried to get 91,” Williams told reporters. “But, you know, it’s already taken. But hopefully I can get out of 78.”

Williams doesn’t plan on letting Detroit down in the meantime, though.
“But for right now, it’s 78 and, you know, I’m gonna stick with it and make it look good,” Williams said. “But for right now, that’s my number.”
Williams plans to make the most of all his opportunities with one of the best teams in the NFL.
“You got to learn, so I’m going to be in the film room with all the coaches, just learning as much as I can,” Williams said. “So when I am on the field, getting more reps, I can do it at a high level.”
Williams has a couple veteran standouts to learn from in Detroit with DJ Reader and Alim McNeil.
Eventually, the 6-foot-3, 334-pound Williams hopes to make his own mark with the Lions, ideally rocking the No. 91.
