A Rasmussen poll released Friday found that the majority of Americans support President Donald Trump’s idea to send $2,000 tariff dividend checks to low-income and middle-class families.

Trump floated last month using excess money from the tariffs to pay down the national debt and to send $2,000 stimulus checks to struggling families amid ongoing frustrations with the economy.

The poll found that 62% of likely U.S. voters who responded to the survey said they support sending the $2,000 checks to Americans, including 34% who strongly agree with the proposition. Just 29% said they disapprove of the idea, including 18% who strongly disagree.

The latest numbers in favor of the stimulus checks are a decrease from a Napolitan News Service’s poll last month, which found 71% of registered voters favored the idea and only 22% objected.

The survey was conducted from Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 and polled 1,133 likely voters. It had a plus and minus three percent margin of error.
