It’s July, which means MLB trade rumors are buzzing.
The Seattle Mariners are flirting with a playoff spot, but clearly could use some extra pop in their lineup beyond the historic season they’re getting from all-star catcher Cal Raleigh.
The Mariners’ biggest need, arguably, comes from the corner infield spots, most notably third base, which has led to speculation that Seattle could trade for Boston Red Sox star Alex Bregman.
That very possibility was recently addressed by MLB insider Jeff Passan.
“If you’re a Seattle Mariners team that’s kind of treading water right now – you know, in a playoff spot but (there are) clearly weaknesses, and the most striking of those weaknesses right now is third base, then yes, you should (trade for Bregman),” Passan said. “Would they? I mean, we get back to the same question that we do every offseason. Would the Mariners go out and spend real money on a guy who’s going to improve their team? And up to this point, they have not shown a willingness to do so.”
What would the Mariners need to give up?
Well, a lot of that conversation begins with catching prospect Harry Ford, who is set to represent Seattle in the MLB Futures Game for the third straight year.
But if you think that trade buzz might be getting to the star prospect, you’d be wrong.
On Wednesday night, Ford delivered a seventh inning three-run blast for the Tacoma Rainiers in a 9-3 win.

The Mariners have one of the best catching situations in all of baseball with Raleigh in the big leagues and Ford waiting in the wings.
If that leads to a trade to bolster the lineup before the July 31 deadline, Ford could be on the move.
Just don’t expect him to worry about it.
Clearly, he’s doing just fine.
